Photos by Elena Martynyuk
February 19, 2013
Three years ago already, we announced that the Russian photographer Elena Martynyuk was making a photo series illustrating Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita, in collaboration with the Bulgakov House in Moscow.
The project started with high ambitions: 70 shooting sessions were organized and more than 1,000 photos have been made.
The photos have been made at the locations described by Bulgakov in the novel, like on the roof of the Pashkov House and, of course, in the Bulgakov House on Sadovaya 302-bis. The scenes of the Variety Theatre were photographed at the Moscow Art Theatre MKhAT, where Bulgakov's pieces were performed and where he also worked himself.
When the project started, we also announced the plans to make a book and an exhibition. And it looks like we will soon be able to fully enjoy the results of the work of Elena Martynyuk, since the Bulgakov reported that she is putting the final touch on the book. We dare to bet that it will be presented around May 15, the anniversary of Mikhail Bulgakov. We will keep you informed, of course. Meanwhile you can use the link below to enjoy some of the photos.
