Andrew Lloyd Webber, the famous producer, has announced on his weblog that he wants to make a musical based on the Master and Margarita. “After six months of agonising about what I should write next I am going to attempt the impossible. I am going to see if I can turn Mikhail Bulgakov’s extraordionary novel The Master and Margarita into a stage musical or, more probably, an opera,” he wrote. He is very aware that this will be almost certainly the most ambitious undertaking he has ever embarked upon.
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is not just anybody. Since 40 years he is one of the most succesful musical producers. He won several Tony Awards and wrote the scores for Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, and many more. At the moment he's working on a readaptation of The Sound of Music, probably one of the most popular musicalls ever. In October he confronts the world with Connie Fisher, an unknown actress he discovered through the reality show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? and who will play the role of the family Von Trapp's nanny.
It is still unknown when The Master and Margarita will be premiered. "It will almost certainly falter and will depend on who my collaborators are. At the moment I have not approached anyone”, he concludes. We'll be patiently awaiting.
